چکیده

We have constructed an extended halo model (EHM) which relates the total stellar mass and star-formation rate (SFR) to halo mass (Mh). An empirical relation between the distribution functions of total stellar mass of galaxies and host halo mass, tuned to match the spatial density of galaxies over 0 < z < 2 and the clustering properties at z ∼ 0, is extended to include two different scenarios describing the variation of SFR on Mh. We also present new measurements of the redshift evolution of the average SFR for star-forming galaxies of different stellar masses up to z= 2, using data from the Herschel Multi-tiered Extragalactic Survey for infrared bright

Connecting Galaxies, Halos, and Star Formation Rates across Cosmic Time

A simple, observationally-motivated model is presented for understanding how halo masses, galaxy stellar masses, and star formation rates are related, and how these relations evolve with time. The relation between halo mass and galaxy stellar mass is determined by matching the observed spatial abundance of galaxies to the expected spatial abundance of halos at multiple epochs — i.e. more massiv...

Galaxy growth in the concordance ΛCDM cosmology

We use galaxy and dark halo data from the public database for the Millennium Simulation to study the growth of galaxies in the De Lucia et al. (2006) model for galaxy formation. Previous work has shown this model to reproduce many aspects of the systematic properties and the clustering of real galaxies, both in the nearby universe and at high redshift. It assumes the stellar masses of galaxies ...

A Comprehensive Analysis of Uncertainties Affecting the Stellar Mass – Halo Mass Relation For

We conduct a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between central galaxies and their host dark matter halos, as characterized by the stellar mass – halo mass (SM–HM) relation, with rigorous consideration of uncertainties. Our analysis focuses on results from the abundance matching technique, which assumes that every dark matter halo or subhalo above a specific mass threshold hosts one gal...

The dependence of galaxy clustering on stellar mass, star-formation rate and redshift at z = 0.8 − 2.2, with HiZELS

The deep, near-infrared narrow-band survey HiZELS has yielded robust samples of Hα-emitting star-forming galaxies within narrow redshift slices at z = 0.8, 1.47 & 2.23. In this paper, we distinguish the stellar mass and star-formation rate (SFR) dependence of the clustering of these galaxies. At high stellar masses (M∗/M⊙ & 2 × 1010), where HiZELS selects galaxies close to the so-called star-fo...

Baryonic Conversion Tree: The global assembly of stars and dark matter in galaxies from the SDSS

Using the spectroscopic sample of the SDSS DR1 we measure how gas was transformed into stars as a function of time and stellar mass: the baryonic conversion tree (BCT). There is a clear correlation between early star formation activity and present-day stellar mass: the more massive galaxies have converted about 80% of their baryons into stars at z > 1, while for the less massive ones the value ...
